It all started with astronaut ice cream
As a kid, our co-founder Andrew mowed lawns around the neighborhood just to buy astronaut ice cream sandwiches. He never got over them. Years later, he and Danielle started freeze-drying treats at home, and in 2021 that hobby became Tahoe Treats. Today we freeze-dry real ice cream into scoops and sandwich bites in our licensed facility in Sparks, Nevada.
What is freeze-dried ice cream?
It's real ice cream with the water taken out. We freeze it far below zero, then a vacuum pulls the frozen water out as vapor. The result is light, airy and crunchy, and it slowly melts in your mouth into creamy ice cream flavor. No freezer, no cooler, no drips.

What is freeze-dried ice cream?
It's real ice cream with the water removed. We freeze it far below zero, then a vacuum pulls the ice out as vapor. What's left is light, crunchy and full of flavor, and it melts in your mouth like ice cream does.
Is freeze-dried ice cream the same as astronaut ice cream?
It's the same idea. Astronaut ice cream is freeze-dried ice cream. Ours is made in small batches from real ice cream, so the scoops are bigger, creamier and come in a lot more flavors.
Does freeze-dried ice cream need to be refrigerated?
No. It's shelf-stable. Keep the bag sealed in a cool, dry spot so it stays crunchy.
How long does it last?
Unopened, it keeps for months. Once opened, reseal the bag and enjoy it within a few days for the best crunch.
