We have some sweet news to share: Tahoe Treats is featured in the Summer 2026 issue of Edible Reno-Tahoe magazine! Writer Nora Heston Tarte's feature, "Sweet Science," looks at how freeze-dried candy has taken off across our region, and we're honored to be part of the story.

From lawn-mowing money to a licensed kitchen
For Andrew, this all started long before Tahoe Treats existed. As a kid, he mowed lawns to pay for his astronaut ice cream habit. That love of crunchy, airy, freeze-dried ice cream never went away. Today, we get to make it ourselves.
Tahoe Treats started as a hobby. We were freeze-drying lightweight snacks to bring on hikes in the Sierra, and it quickly became a passion. We launched out of our Sparks basement in July 2021 and moved into a commercial facility in October 2022. We're now fully licensed for food manufacturing, and we're proud to be the first commercially permitted freeze-dried candy and ice cream manufacturer in the Reno-Tahoe area.
As Andrew told Edible: "We pride ourselves on being the 'Mercedes of Munchies.'" For a guy with years of Mercedes-Benz mechanical experience, that standard means something. Every bag should look great on the shelf and taste even better.
Still a husband-and-wife operation
Tahoe Treats is still just the two of us, Andrew and Danielle, plus a couple of hardworking part-time helpers. We don't see ourselves as a warehouse cranking out snacks. We're a local family business, and we partner with the stores that carry our treats to bring them the best products we can.
You can find us all over the region, including hotels, casinos, resorts, markets, convenience stores, the Fleischmann Planetarium, all local Jackson's Food Stores (Shell and Chevron + ExtraMile), Golden Gate Petroleum C-Stores, and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Wherever you're headed, you can grab a bag for the road trip or a last-minute gift. Use our interactive map to find a store near you! https://tahoetreats.com/pages/where-to-buy

Our favorites (and probably yours too)
The magazine asked about our favorites, and it wasn't hard to pick:
- Rainbow Crunch is our best-seller by far. It comes in Wild Berry, Sour, Mashups and Original, and once it's freeze-dried it puffs into crunchy orbs packed with flavor.
-
Ice Cream Sandwiches are the treat that started it all. They puff up light and airy and melt the second they hit your tongue.
- Ice Cream Scoops, including the Cotton Candy scoops shown in the magazine, plus Caramel Apple Bites, Gummy Worms, Hi-Crunch, and Strawberry Lemonade Crunch Bites.

Thank you, Reno-Tahoe
A huge thank you to Edible Reno-Tahoe, to Nora Heston Tarte for telling our story, and to photographer Donna Victor for making our products look so good. Most of all, thank you to everyone who has picked up a bag, shared us with a friend, or stocked us on their shelves. You're the reason two hikers with a freeze dryer turned into a local business.
